Billing itself as Atlanta’s leading security provider, NorthStar Security specializes in offering low initial rates with tons of higher level options. Starting at $16.95/month for its most basic package, you can begin protecting your home and benefiting from 24/7 monitoring, to help you rest a little easier. Instead of bundling “cookie cutter” security equipment packages, NorthStar Security designs a system specifically for your home and your needs. While this might annoy some people who like to know exactly what they’ll be getting, it should at least help you rest assured that NorthStar Security is specifically looking out for you, your home and your family.

Equipment

Despite the lack of prepackaged plans, NorthStar security does a good job of documenting the equipment that you might receive for your customized home solution. Of course this includes standard features: door and window sensors, motion detectors and a few different options for your home security terminal. You’ll also notice, however, add-on options for video surveillance and home automation equipment, which can make your home feel even safer by giving you even more control. Depending on your home’s location and needs, you might also be interested in flood or freeze monitoring equipment as well.

Monitoring and response

With tons of monitoring options to meet your home’s needs, NorthStar Security claims to offer the support, technology and service to help you rest assured that someone is looking out for you and your loved ones. Whether you want landline or wireless monitoring, you’ll receive the same reliable and fast responses to your home emergency needs. Among standard features, you can secure your home for smoke/heat, carbon monoxide, flood and temperature monitoring.

NorthStar Security attempts to make sure that you get what you need to secure your home by customizing the equipment and monitoring you receive. Everything from standard door and window monitors to sophisticated surveillance cameras is available, and the company helps you determine which ones will work best for you. Not knowing exactly what you’ll get could be a strike for some, but the personalized solution should help you see how the company is meeting your needs.

For advanced features, the company offers convenient mobile access to arm and disarm your system from any smartphone, tablet or computer. This can help you control your home’s security, even when you can’t be there to secure your home yourself. You’ll also receive text and email alerts to keep you in the loop of what’s happening at your home at all times. Video monitoring can give you the same type of access, providing a real-time look-in to your home’s safety.

Pricing

Starting at $16.95/month for basic monitoring, NorthStar offers some of the best introductory rates in the industry. If you’d prefer the reliability of wireless monitoring and service, however, your pricing will be bumped up to $24.95/month. Total connect will offer you mobile interface to arm and disarm your system for $30.95/month, with the option of adding an additional $9/month for video monitoring. NorthStar Security, however, doesn’t list any costs for its security equipment, making it hard to tell how much your total cost will be.

The Good…

$16.95 introductory monitoring rate is among the lowest in home security

The Bad…

Doesn’t tell you exactly what equipment you’ll get

And The Ugly

Adds additional fees for every monitoring service you want to add to your home
