Exposing Homemade Weaponry for Home Security

Home security systems work well, but it’s good to have another failsafe just in case they don’t work or are bypassed.  If you don’t have a handgun in your home or are to afraid to own one, there are some simple items that you can use for self defense.  You can use household items to make creative and interesting protective weapons.  We all know that wasp spray can be used to temporarily blind an attacker and is advantageous as you don’t need to be within arms length of your assailant to use it.  Wasp spray has a target range of up to 15 feet and could send any schmuck to the nearest hospital.

Both oven cleaner and wasp spray are caustic chemicals and could cause permanent damage and blindness.  Be forewarned if using this as a means of self defense that you are prepared to use this method as deadly force.  Most states have laws that will even allow criminals to sue you for wrongful injury (such as blindness) and assault.  This article does not advocate the use of such force and just serves as an informational source for homeowners.

It’s most likely a good idea to prepare your self with items that are specifically tailored for self defense such as standard pepper spray or stun guns.  There is a home defense pepper spray available that has a range of about 30 feet and the new C2 Taser can incapacitate your attacker from about 15 feet away.   You may think fashioning a homemade bat or shooting someone with a blow dart gun will help keep you safe.  These are all things that may fail to work when you need them most.

Another important element to consider when making homemade weapons is how easy they are to have the tables turned on you.  Be aware that whatever device you decide to use on intruders, it could very well end up being used on you.   The bottom line is that you are the only person who can decide if these tactics are warranted if you think your life is in danger and you have no other option.  If your home security system goes off in the middle of the night, you should be at least somewhat prepared with a weapon.

Being on the hook for criminal or civil damages is no fun for a homeowner who is only trying to protect themselves and their home.  You might want to do yourself a favor and spend the extra money arming yourself with a legitimate weapon; such as a gun.   That way, lethal force may be justified inside your home and no one is hanging around to tell tales.
